Indigenous Law Research Unit co-research director Tara Williamson and researcher Ellen Campbell, alongside Leslie-Ann Paige from one of our community partner organizations, NIȽ TU,O Child and Family Services Society, were grateful to have been invited by West Coast LEAF and Courthouse Libraries to be part of their four-part webinar series Addressing Racism and White Supremacy in Child Welfare in BC. We presented on the Legacy and Future of Social Work, Colonialism, Indigenous Law, and Child Welfare in B.C. During the presentation, we specifically drew on our project focusing on Coast Salish Laws Relating to Child and Caregiver Nurturance and Safety, which can be found here, https://ilru.ca/toolkit-centres-salish-laws-on-child-caregiver-nurturance-and-safety/, and the next steps we will be taking with the work.
