Kipimoojikewin (“the things we carry with us”): How Anishinaabe Law Upholds Community Governance (2019-2020)
Funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario
In partnership with Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle, this project seeks to articulate how principles and processes within an Anishinaabe legal tradition inform and legitimize community governance. Over the course of this research collaboration, the ILRU team will facilitate community workshops and focus groups, and they will also analyze available legal precedents and resources. Ultimately, this work will be synthesized to create a report, toolkit, and/or casebook for the ongoing work of upholding Anishinaabe law within community governance.
Our community-based team and our ILRU research team have created a space for community participants to discuss stories and resources for exploring Anishinabek legal principles and processes. See website.
